Woman Risks Prison for Stealing Cousin's Lottery Win

After admitting to stealing a significant lottery win from her cousin, a woman now faces four years in prison. Iris Amador Argueta fabricated papers and presented them to her cousin in an effort to persuade him that he had won $20,000 even though he had actually won more than 26 times that amount.
He made Argueta a $50,000 offer to accept the award on his behalf.
The cousin offered Argueta $50,000 to accept the prize on his behalf because he wanted to remain anonymous. She lied to him in order to take a lump sum of $537,440 for herself, but she did as she was told. The offense's sentencing guidelines range from
